A year of CHAT

Over the last year, I have worked the Coastal Hazards & Adaptation Team (CHAT), Seabrook-Hamptons Estuary Alliance (SHEA) and the NH Coastal Program to gather data, learn, and discuss flood vulnerability to sea level rise and flooding in Hampton, NH. CHAT was formed to assist the Town of Hampton with flood adaptation. The group is comprised of representatives from town departments, boards, committees, and commissions, resident champions, and SHEA. This cross section of representatives of the town is uniquely positioned to take a comprehensive look at flood impacts and solutions and, importantly, to improve communication about this topic. We are moving into 2020 armed with ideas for next steps, maps, information about adaptation strategies, and greater awareness of the concerns of and barriers to adaptation. I am looking forward to working with the group to enhance public awareness and understanding of how individuals and the town can build on the resiliency planning and actions taken to date.
